We knew Andrew would start getting sick when he began daycare. We just didn't think he would get sick the 1st week he was there. He started off with the minor sniffles the 1st weekend, which turned into a recurring fever the 2nd week. We had to take him out of daycare the 3rd week because his temperature kept spiking up during the day. Although he wasn't enjoying the fever, his bright smile indicated that he was pretty darn pleased to be picked up early from daycare by Daddy!
The doctors finally took some of Andrew's blood for tests the 3rd week (since they couldn't find anything wrong with him the first two times we took him to the doctor's). Two days later, his doctor informed us that Andrew's preliminary blood work showed that he might have contracted a staph infection and asked us to take him to the emergency room for further testing. We spent about 6 hours at the ER, where Andrew got prodded and probed some more. The doctors finally brought us the good news that we could go home as his second set of bloodwork looked OK. The initial "positive" may have been a false one. As a precaution, they asked that we take him to his pediatrician next week for a third round of screening.
The doctors were amazed at how happy Andrew was despite his illness and off-and-on fever. He cried a little bit when the nurses took his blood and put his IV tube in, but was quite chipper the rest of the time. Jim and I are hoping that his fever goes away soon. The poor boy has been getting very little sleep at night because of his congestion, cough, and fever (and hence making his parents quite tired as well!).

Aww Poor Andrew! So sorry to hear that he has been coughing and not sleeping. We had that happen with Ryan recently in India and it can be awful to watch your baby go through it. Ryan stopped eating entirely during that time too. Just chicken soup with a straw. Hope Andrew gets better soon and that we see you for Ryan's birthday!
